Our ecosystem

The Ocean Sciences Institut training programme draws on 5 AMU partner faculties as well as the University of Toulon and Centrale Méditérranée, with more than 250 students enrolled on one of the 15 master’s programmes attached to our institute.  It also works in collaboration with 8 AMU doctoral schools and 2 partner University of Toulon doctoral schools within our scope, with around 200 PhD students.

Our training initiatives

The Ocean Sciences Institut proposes a set of initiatives for master’s and PhD students in the field: an annual seasonal school with theory and practical sessions, the organisation of events bringing together academics, students and partners (e.g. Ocean Day 2023 bringing together 150 professionals and students) and thesis and master’s grants. We also support the implementation of new interdisciplinary training that incorporates a scientific approach (DESU, (post-master’s qualification) UE (teaching unit)). At international level, we are developing close ties with the CIVIS alliance, (European civic university). We welcome more than 10 different nationalities among our students and 7 nationalities in our international summer school. Lastly, we are also developing partnerships with leading oceanography universities (e.g. Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution).

Ocean trainee

The institute enabled me to prepare for a thesis by asking for deliverables throughout my internship (abstract, poster, summary slides). I was also invited to various events that enabled me to meet other foreign researchers specializing in marine social sciences.
