The EOREA alliance
EOREA is an alliance of 14 universities and research centres of standing in the field of marine and maritime sciences. Aix Marseille Université (AMU) coordinates this network jointly with the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU).
The aim of the 14 founding institutions is to share their expertise and their facilities to further research and learning in oceanography, Europe-wide.
The Collaborative Research and Education Programmes (CREP) developed within the EOREA alliance aim to strengthen scientific and educational cooperation between member institutions. There are four joint programmes: Aquaculture, biodiversity and ecosystems (coordinated by AMU), Maritime transport and Robotics and new sensors.
Ocean challenges: Launch of a European research and education alliance
The European Ocean Research and Education Alliance (EOREA) was launched on 8 December 2022 at the European parliament. This historic initiative, coordinated by Aix-Marseille Université (AMU) and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), among the 14 key contributors to this alliance, aims to strengthen bottom-up and transnational cooperation at European level. It therefore meets the need to raise awareness of the risks and hazards associated with oceans, and to facilitate a greater integration of these subjects at European level. AMU is particularly involved in Brussels through its representative office and its interdisciplinary Institute for ocean sciences.
