CrossGov Summer School in Marseilles: exploring the coherence of European marine policies
For three days, students, researchers and professionals gathered in Marseille to take part in the CrossGov Summer School, an immersive event dedicated to sustainable ocean governance and the interaction of European marine policies.
Co-organized by the CrossGov team and the Ocean Institute (amU), this summer school provided a stimulating space to reflect on the points of convergence, divergence and potential synergies between different European marine policies.
The 3-day event included presentations and group work, as well as an unforgettable sailboat outing.
Celebrating a unique treasure
With its exceptional biodiversity, the Mediterranean is home to almost 17,000 marine species, some of which are unique in the world. It is also at the heart of the blue economy, supporting millions of jobs in the fishing, tourism and maritime transport sectors. An emblematic example of this wealth is posidonia, a marine plant endemic to the Mediterranean. A veritable "lung" of the sea, it produces oxygen, stores carbon and serves as a habitat for numerous marine species.
