It is also at the heart of the blue economy, supporting millions of jobs in the fishing, tourism and maritime transport sectors. An emblematic example of this wealth is posidonia, a marine plant endemic to the Mediterranean. A veritable "lung" of the sea, it produces oxygen, stores carbon and serves as a habitat for numerous marine species.
