Blue preparedness : European ocean research and education in the perspective of civil protection
This event marks the launch of the first two Collaborative Research and Education Programmes (CREPs) of the European Ocean Research and Education Alliance (EOREA): The Aquaculture CREP and the Marine Robotics CREP. The event is hosted at the European Parliament by MEP Paulo do Nascimento Cabral.
Marine robotics plays a critical role for environmental protection, surveillance, and securing vulnerable infrastructure. Aquaculture has the potential to sustainably enhance European food security. Investing in European ocean knowledge and technology is thus a crucial element of our preparedness as a society. EOREA aims to strengthen cooperation in marine research and education and contribute to major European and international ocean agendas. The CREPs are at the heart of EOREA’s approach, aiming to better align existing national research and education activities across participating institutions, foster collaboration across borders and disciplines, and reduce unnecessary duplication of efforts.
With this public launch during Ocean Week, we welcome all public higher education and research and innovation institutions to join in building our CREPs.
