On the occasion of the One Ocean Science Congress in Nice, the coordination of the French Network of Marine Universities was officially transferred from Sorbonne Université to Aix-Marseille Université.

Our warmest thanks go to François Lallier for his commitment and work in structuring and raising the profile of French marine research.

Richard Sempéré, representing Aix-Marseille Université and Director of Institut Océan, is taking over the coordination with enthusiasm and determination to continue this collective dynamic, in the service of training, research and innovation in marine sciences, in a spirit of national and international cooperation.

Together, let's keep ocean sciences alive, ambitious, open and committed!

Celebrating a unique treasure

With its exceptional biodiversity, the Mediterranean is home to almost 17,000 marine species, some of which are unique in the world. It is also at the heart of the blue economy, supporting millions of jobs in the fishing, tourism and maritime transport sectors. An emblematic example of this wealth is posidonia, a marine plant endemic to the Mediterranean. A veritable "lung" of the sea, it produces oxygen, stores carbon and serves as a habitat for numerous marine species.
